What does your homeschool day look like?
How to you keep on top of your kids when it comes to school and chores?
How do you juggle ministry and family?
I attempted to answer these questions and more in today's video. Do you have a question or comment? Let me know; I'd be happy to talk about it.
Do you have any other specific tips of things you have found helpful for taking care of you when your husband is traveling (besides your computer :))?
ReplyDeleteLoved this video! I was tagged by a friend, and everything you touched on this is video is something that I am working through right now! I am in the process of deciding if homeschooling is something I want to do, just implemented a chore schedule with my 4, 3, and 2 year old and inviting people into our home is something I have been striving to do more often. Thank you for the encouragement!
ReplyDeleteGreat video! Thank you so much for filming this!! I have a one year old and another on the way. Taking care of the family at home is still a new adjustment, even with just one :). Thank you for always being so REAL!! Please continue to do these!! BTW, What homeschool curriculum do you use? And are there any parenting &/or homeschool books I should read? Thanks so much and hope you have a great day!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog!!! Thank you for taking the time to do these posts, especially with all that is on your plate! On food: we eat pretty healthy when we are at home, but on days when we're out of routine, it's hard to get real food on the table, unless we eat eggs ;) what snacks and quick foods do you use when days are off? (is Annie's macaroni okay? Larabars? -- what is your opinion of traditional medcinals tea? --- on kids: what do you do about sharing? We make our kids share and play together, but if they want to do a particular item alone, then they must wait til quiet time. Not sure if this is something to keep doing? ---and yes what curriculum are you using?! ---sorry so long!!! Also, love your husbands passion when he worships!! We have a home church and for right now, we're doing video worship from bethel and we almost always choose his segments!!! God has greatly gifted both of you!!! Thank you for your readiness and passion!!! May God bless your family!! ------- Amanda Yandell (four kids- 8,4,4,2) :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I'm actually in the middle of working on a lunch/snacks post with some ideas, but I am not exempt of buying some Barbara's mac and cheese and Larabars on occasion. ;) When I can, I try to stick with in-season fruit with organic, raw cheese and/or nuts for snack. I'll have some more ideas soon! :) We love Traditional Medicinals Tea, especially Throat Coat and Ginger, and Eater's Digest. We teach sharing, but also with lots of kids at home, try to allow them time to enjoy a toy of theirs uninterrupted by a sibling who thinks that toy looks fun at the time. Eventually, it ends up being more fun to play with a sibling and they share naturally. I try to keep a balance, and if a child seems to be hoarding, we break it up with sharing. If a child is easily trampled on by siblings and seems to need some alone time or sense of ownership (in a healthy way), I protect that and allow them to play alone. I hope that makes sense. This year we are using Sonlight curriculum and we LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteThank you! We are using Sonlight curriculum for the first time this year and we're LOVING it!
ReplyDeleteSo happy to read this. Thank you. :) Grace and peace on your decision-making.
ReplyDeleteHaha! Yes. :) I like to give myself parameters: 1) What gives me life that doesn't break the bank/is free or very cheap? For me, its writing, gardening, creating pretty things from nature (garlands, wreaths, bouquets...), and reading books. 2) I always have an emergency eating out budget when Jeremy is traveling. I try to keep meals healthy and very simple while he's gone, but there are some days that I need a break and we will go to a local healthy restaurant as a special treat. I try to limit this to once/trip. 3) I am adamant about putting my kids to bed on time when alone. If they end up talking in bed for an hour, that's ok with me, but protecting some downtime at the end of the day makes me a happier mama the next morning.
ReplyDeleteWell... I would love to have more time to prepare for speaking events. :) I do my best with the time I have. I don't have too many aspirations for speaking, but I do consider each event that I'm invited to speak at. I'm kinda addicted to non-fiction right now: especially how-to's for gardening and homesteading. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear your joy in feeling called home! For the last couple of years I fought that calling, thinking that giving myself over to it would keep me IN my house forever. If anything, it's forced me to be "choosier" in my pursuits because ain't nobody got time for an overfilled plate. Thanks for being another voice singing the praises of following "simple" callings!
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I would love to hear about some of your favorite beginner resources for homeschooling. We're officially kicking off our journey in the new year! Also, you mentioned spending a good chunk of time establishing a new routine/rhythm in your home...what did that look like, practically? I have charts and good intentions coming out of my ears, but teaching (not nagging) Littles can be tricky business.
Hi! I'm quite impressed by what you do, but I have a big question: what exactly is home schooling? Does it mean that you like never send your kids to a proper school or is it just for a while that you teach them yourself? Cause I'm from Germany and in our country it's not allowed because everyone is obliged to have a real education... And I think that's good! Because otherwise they wouldn't be able to go to uni or do a college ...?! Or how do you do it? I'm excited to read your answer :) Sia
