Wisdom From My Mother: Tips for a Fun, Successful Thanksgiving with Kids!

Thanksgiving is coming.  Does this bring excitement to your heart or do you shudder at the thought of it?  Over the years, I've learned so much on how to host or contribute to big get-togethers by watching my mom do it so well.  She never shooed us kids out of the kitchen.  If there wasn't a job for us to do, she made one up.  I really think this is why I adore holidays and hosting so much.  It brings such memories of togetherness from years past.  There was always a job if I wanted one, and being involved in the preparation might have been the most enjoyable part of the holidays for me; and still is!

I had the honor of getting gold nuggets of wisdom from my mom and I'm so happy to share them with you:

Here's a link of the turkey we mentioned in the video, as well as the penguins she made with the kids in the winter.  If you have any words of wisdom regarding Thanksgiving with kids and involving them in the kitchen, please feel free to share with the rest of us in the comment section below.  Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. These videos are so fun, Katie! Thank you for the countdown calendar and helpful tips.

I especially want to thank you for your sound advice regarding food snobbery at Thanksgiving. Right on!

P.S. Tell your Mom that we love seeing her, too!

  2. Amazing tips! I enjoy that you bring everyone into the kitchen to help. The kitchen seems to be the center the "gathering place" at our home during the holidays. Incredible memories are being made to last a life times.

  3. These are great videos! Keep them coming. We celebrate thanksgiving with our surrogate family here in Abu Dhabi - it's always a fun challenge to hunt down thanksgiving ingredients (pumpkin, cranberries).
