8 Ideas to Give Your Packed Lunches a Healthy Makeover


This post has been in the making since August.  Each time a lunch was made that my kids adored, I started taking pictures of them to archive as a reference.  I share a few of them over at Modern Alternative Kitchen today, as well as three simple steps to ensure a successful transition to simple, real food lunches.  As I'm always on the look-out for new ideas, what are some foods you like to pack into lunches?  I am thankful for any suggestions.

  1. Love these ideas! My three kids don't like carrots or celery, so veggies don't seem to work for us. :( They do love fruit. Especially apples, but when I slice them they turn brown. (there's always a wiggly tooth somewhere, so I have to cut the apples up!) We do some of the same things. My kids love my banana muffins made with spelt flour and coconut oil. My question is, how do you keep everything from spilling/moving around in the containers you use? What do you do for their juice? I've always bought organic boxed juices, but I think I'm going to buy the small glass bottles to fit in their lunches and make juice. I'm just not sure what to make yet. :)

  3. Great! Thank you so much! There is a sandwich my kids love: bread, raw cream cheese mixed with a little bit of vanilla extract on one slice, nut butter on the other slice, and sliced apple in the middle! (green apple works great with this) Yum! :)

  6. Some of my favorite lunchbox additions are lacto-fermented applesauce (cultures for health recipe), cinnamon vanilla baked oatmeal (eat nourishing), crispy almonds, and nut butter/raw honey/ choco chips mixed together. LOVE your lunch ideas and all of your recipes, for that matter!! xoxox
