Raw Persimmon Spice Smoothies ~ A Recipe

It's time to add another seasonal smoothie to our recipe collection.  We really like this one.  A lot.  Persimmons aren't a very common fruit, but I highly recommend that you give them a try if you never have.  Be sure to use ripe ones, or they might make you pucker and your tongue will feel fuzzy from the tannins.  Ripe persimmons feel like a ripe tomato.

Persimmon Spice Smoothie
Prep time: 5 minutes, makes 5 cups

  • 4 cups kefir or plain yogurt
  • 2 persimmons, peeled & quartered (no need to peel if using a high-speed blender like a vita-mix)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
Blend all ingredients until smooth.  Enjoy!  Freeze any leftovers in popsicle molds.

  3. Totally unexpected goodness! I haven't been able to make persimmons in a way that I really like (my other recipes all had you cook them) but this was the perfect way to use those 2 guys that have been sitting on my counter for over a week. I only had about 2 1/2 cups of plain yogurt left and it still turned out wonderful! I think you are a magician, Katie!
