It's a big week here on the homestead.  Not only is Tuesday Valentine's Day, I will also be officially full-term!  But the highlight of this week is our son's eighth birthday!  We let our kids choose their birthday menu, so Monday might look a little different than the rest of this simplified week.

Breakfast: Grain-Free Waffles & Breakfast Sausage
Snack: Orange Julius (made with kefir instead of milk)
Snack:  Crispy Almonds
Dinner: Pepperoni Pizza with Sourdough Crust

Tuesday (Valentine's Day!)
To do: Make English muffins, soak porridge & kidney beans, that stew meat for Thursday
Breakfast: Pink Pancakes
Snack: Frozen Raspberries with a dollop of Creme Fraiche on top

Wednesday:
To do: Thaw ground beef for Friday
Breakfast: Soaked Porridge & scrambled eggs

(Sunday is my day off)

Happy Valentine's Day!

  1. looks like a fun menu (we do the same thing for birthday meal requests!). do you take a break from the weekly csa when you have a baby? i am thinking i might for a couple weeks because i may not be cooking enough to use things up and not waste for a couple weeks there...

my recent post: the highest calling

  2. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the AHO box. My mom will be here for the first week after baby and she'll help prepare meals with it, then I might take a break. We'll see. :)

  3. I am impressed with how much food you are putting up for after the baby comes. Congrats for making it to full term. It's just a waiting game now. Were your other kids on time. Hang in there.

  4. Hi Katie-I absolutely love your blog! I was just wondering what cookbook you would recommend as a must-have/starter cookbook that is user friendly to some who's new to this type of cooking? Maybe you could also suggest some staples to have in the kitchen for this type of cooking/lifestyle like you do with appliances. Thanks!

  5. I'm so glad to hear that! I think Nourishing Traditions (a nutrition and cookbook) is a must-have. I also really like The Maker's Diet by Jordan Rubin. Both books can be found on the rolling sidebar to the right. As far as the kitchen goes, click on the picture to the right that says "Build a Riddlelove kitchen" and that has a list of all my essentials (appliances and groceries). You might also want to browse the nutrition page here, and there's a link to that at the top of this blog. I hope that's helpful!
