Structured crafting with children definitely has it's place. That's how they learn technique and skill. Other times, giving their little creative selves some room to breathe can be thrilling for your little budding artist. I think we're going to do a little bit of both this weekend. My kids aren't quite old enough to turn them lose in the kitchen with a cupcake-making assignment (though 8-year-old just mastered the art of whipping up frosting all by herself. Yep, I am a proud mama. :)). So cupcakes will be our structured craft. This year, I'm rebuking the need to be craft controller and allowing the kids to take complete ownership of their Valentines Day cards. I cannot wait to see what they come up with. Completed creation captures to follow. :)
I let my kids do that last year, it was precious. Looks like we have a lot of the same valentine supplies. The only problem I found was that my sweet children wanted to make a valentine for every person they had ever met! It is tough as a mom to let go and let them be creative, I just had to make my own! Fun times, I think I will have to do that this weekend as well :)
ReplyDeleteI like this Katie! You inspire me friend! This weekend I think I'll let go of "craft controller" myself and let them go at it.
